I’ve covered this topic before but until now it hasn’t been written up in any major publication. Time magazine just published a piece all about the increasing scarcity of Kosher beef. This all traces back to the May immigration raid at the Agriprocessors slaughterhouse in Iowa, and the sleazy business practices that the raid helped uncover.
One kosher meat distributor says:
This little fiasco at this plant has caused the most awful shortage of beef and my gut feeling is it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better. And what it’s doing to prices is horrific.
Horrific if you’re a meat distributor, ultra deluxingly fantastic if you’re a cow. Link.
