Update from Mahi Klosterhalfen:
After spending more than one hundred days in prison, the Austrian activists were finally released today. In a press release the department of public prosecution said that the period of remand was getting disproportionately long. One might argue that using a law against animal activists that was crafted in order to fight terrorists and mafia bosses was disproportional in the first place.
As outlandish as it was to treat peaceful animal advocates like public enemies, some positive things have arisen from this injustice: the Austrian movement had formerly been deeply divided, but now various factions have started to cooperate. Let’s hope things stay that way.
The remaining question is: When will the organizations get their PCs, cameras, and files back so they can go back to posing a serious threat to factory farming?
