If you follow vegan news, you’ve probably seen a few stories over the years of parents who starve their kids on some sort of insanely inadequate diet constructed around misguided religious principles. Then, when the story hits the papers, the diet is wrongly labeled as “vegan,” causing the man on the street to believe that vegans are people who starve their children.
For the first time, I think, ever, one of these stories has actually received competent reporting:
A father convicted of three counts of child abuse for nearly starving his children to death while following a bizarre diet he mistakenly called “vegan” begged for probation Friday in Maricopa County Superior Court so that he could care for the child still in his custody.
It’s a truly horrible case but at least the harm hasn’t been compounded by yet another ineptly written newspaper article. Link.
