America’s having its first large food poisoning outbreak of the new year. 388 people have been sickened by salmonella in 42 states. As is generally the case in the early stages of this sort of thing, nobody has any idea what the hell’s going on, or what the source of the outbreak might be. But you can bet that the true number of people sickened is vastly higher than the 388 people counted so far. Another sure bet is that the number of victims will soar in the coming weeks.
I’ve no reason whatsoever to suspect that Tyson meat could be to blame, but it would be beyond excellent if the outbreak gets linked to Tyson. The firm’s finances are in such rocky shape right now that a major recall could be disastrous to the company’s bottom line. Link.
