The New York Times has an op-ed covering the assorted contaminants in our food supply: maggots, rodent feces, and so forth. It’s the sort of article that could inspire you to embark on a lengthy water fast. One nitpick, regarding this claim:
In case you’re curious: you’re probably ingesting one to two pounds of flies, maggots and mites each year without knowing it…
That seems unreasonably high to me. And I suspect that if you buy your food fresh, and look at it before preparing it, the amount of creepy crawlies you’re unwittingly consuming drops considerably. Link.
