The World Cancer Research Fund is advising parents not to include ham and other cured meats in their kids’ lunches. Exposing children to cured meats exerts a double whammy: it gets them eating foods linked to bowel cancer, and it can establish a taste preference for unhealthful foods that persists throughout life.
So if ham and bacon are given the boot, what does the group counsel serving instead? You guessed it: chicken, cheese, and fish.
It would be sheer lunacy to suggest sandwiches made with nut butters, hummus, grilled veggies, or smoked tofu. Link.
