Here’s Russia’s approach for preventing public panic arising from Swine Flu: just imprison anybody who blogs anything that contradicts the government’s official story. They’ve just locked up a 22 year old medical student on terrorism charges—yes, terrorism charges—for blogging about swine flu related deaths in Saratov.
Maybe swine flu has mutated in an especially deadly way in Saratov, or maybe not. But Russia’s heavy-handed approach isn’t going to contain panic; quite the opposite.
One of two things is happening: either there has been some misinformed blogging, or Saratov is ground zero for a major swine flu coverup. (Via BoingBoing.) Link.
