Help Wanted: Social Networking Expert to Defend Seal Industry

December 22, 2009

Canada’s Federal Government wants to spend $75,000 to hire someone to monitor social networking sites, and respond to posts that belittle the seal industry. As somebody who’d be well-qualified to take this job, assuming I was in the mood to sell my soul, all I can say is: good luck with that.

What’s going to happen is that these pro-sealing responses are going to infuriate people and generate far more anti-sealing messages than would otherwise be the case.

In any case, I’m sure most Canadians are simply delighted that $75,000 of their tax dollars will be going to fund seal industry propaganda. On a side note: how hard would it be for Canada’s veggie and AR groups to team up on a publicity/lobbying campaign that would shut down Canada’s seal industry once and for all? (Via Hawthorne.)
