Canada’s Fisheries Minister Visits China to Promote Seal Products

January 12, 2010

Back in May, a Toronto Star columnist wrote that the European Union’s decision to ban Canadian fur imports had doomed the future of Canada’s seal hunt.

Not so fast. Canada has just sent its fisheries minister to China, accompanied by representatives from five companies that participate in the seal hunt. The president of one of these companies enthuses:

They have a completely different approach over here.

Ain’t that the truth.

It’s sad that Canadian politicians don’t seem to be paying any political cost for supporting the fur industry at every turn. (Via Hawthorne.) Link.
