ABC to Broadcast New Dairy Farm Cruelty Investigation

January 26, 2010

Tonight’s ABC Nightline and World News Tonight programs will be covering a new Mercy For Animals cruelty investigation that broke this morning. An undercover investigator took a job for two months at one of New York state’s largest dairies, and has emerged with some appalling footage.

In response to the incriminating video, the dairy’s CEO basically asks: who do you believe, me or your own lying eyes?

Our animals are critically important to our well being, so we work hard to treat them well, to treat them medically when they need to be treated, to ensure their lives are good while they’re here.

Yeah, now watch the video.

He also says:

We have a history of firing people who have mistreated animals because that is not where we belong.

Which of course also means: We have a history of hiring people who mistreat animals.

The Mercy For Animals video contains a chilling segment in which an employee brags at length about the abuse he has inflicted onto the cows. Nathan Runkle, Mercy For Animals’ founder, told ABC:

Every single time that we send investigators undercover into America’s factory farms, they emerge with startling evidence of animal cruelty and neglect
