Some fantastic news: America’s top Mayonnaise brand, Hellmann’s, has begun making the “Light Mayonnaise” version of its product from cage-free eggs. Apparently, this announcement only refers to the version sold in North America. Just a guess: I’m betting this product contains very little egg to begin with, so switching to higher-priced eggs doesn’t pose much of an expense.
Regardless, this is some precedent-setting news, and is yet another blow to the battery egg industry. The press release even implies that battery eggs aren’t “real food.” Link.
