Sea Shepherd Ends 2010 Campaign

February 26, 2010

Engine troubles and low fuel have forced the Sea Shepherd to send its two remaining ships back to port early. While this is a break for Japanese whalers, there are just two weeks left in the whaling season, and it’s clear that the Sea Shepherd’s efforts have been incredibly successful. Jeff Hansen, the organization’s Australian director, says:

It’s coming to the end of the whaling season and we’ve been on them now for … three weeks now where no whales have been killed so it’s been a big success.

Given this year’s unsuccessful hunt, and the new legal pressure coming from Australia, Japan’s whaling program seems vulnerable like never before. (Via Hawthone.) Link.
