Top Horse Breeder Convicted of Animal Cruelty

March 10, 2010

A top racehorse breeder was convicted on 33 counts of animal cruelty, and now faces up to a $33,000 fine plus two years in the big house. After police raided his farm in April 2009, finding many of his horses emaciated, Ernie Paragallo said on videotape:

I’m not denying it; if they want to lock me up, maybe they should. Whether it’s my fault or not, it happened and it’s my responsibility.

Interesting stuff towards the end of the article about how New York State hands out millions of dollars of subsidies to horse breeders. With any luck, the Paragallo story will put an end to that pork barrel. Link.
