Canada looks like it’ll throttle back its upcoming seal hunt for this year, but not because of any attack of conscience: it appears the ice floes will be too meager to allow fishermen to safely walk up to seal pups and bash them to death.
I’m going to try to avoid using the phrase “seal hunt” in the future: anytime you can just walk right up to a baby animal and club him to death, you’re not hunting. This is a massacre or a slaughter, plain and simple. (Via Hawthorne.) Link.
