Well, that didn’t take long. Barely a day after I blogged about an effort by Hawaii legislators to formally recognize the tradition of cockfighting in the state, the lawmakers killed the bill. While they gave lame and evasive reasons, the bill’s dead and that’s what counts.
I’d have liked to see them use this occasion to begin upgrading cockfighting busts to a felony-level crime. Unbelievably, it’s currently legal to be a spectator at a cockfight in Hawaii. Link.
