Eye-poppingly stupid coverage of the Conklin cruelty case by FarmAndDairy.com. Without offering a shred of evidence, the writer speculates that the farm worker arrested for beating the calves was paid off by Mercy For Animals. And there is plenty more innuendo where that came from. Despicable. Link.
Update: Mercy For Animals founder Nathan Runkle emailed me his response to the piece:
The Farm and Dairy article is, for lack of a better word, bullshit. It’s incredibly sad when an industry is given a chance to come forward and admit “we have a problem and need to work hard to fix it,” but rather chooses to turn around to shoot the messenger by making outrageous and unsupported accusations. I guess they say that the first stage to recovery is “denial.” I’m often left wondering, when I hear industry people say “this is isolated and/or staged abuse,” just how disconnected or out-of-touch they are with their own industry. Or, more likely, just how willing they are to mislead the public.
