Oyster Companies on the Brink

The BP oil disaster has doomed a 134-year-old New Orleans oyster shucking company.

Other Louisiana oyster companies say their oyster supplies are also dwindling, prices are rising and the future of their business remains stark and uncertain.

It’s becoming clear that there are millions of Gulf Coast residents who will be forced to at least partly shift away from their seafood-based diets.
