Dairy Farmers Threaten Milk Dump

July 5, 2010

Between 1995 and 2009, Uncle Sam paid dairy farmers $4.8 billion in subsidies, including an all-time high payout in 2009 of $1.14 billion.

How are dairy farmers responding to such generosity? By threatening to dump their milk in an effort to attract still greater subsidies. One New York dairy farmer says:

If every farmer in this country dumped their milk for three days, the shelves would be empty, and we’d get somewhere with immediate action.

The immediate action should be abolishing the dairy price support system as of today. What a bunch of ungrateful pricks. (Thanks, Sam.) Link.
