Schwarzenegger Terminates Battery Egg Sales as of 2015

July 6, 2010

Wonderful news tonight out of California: Governor Schwarzenegger just signed A.B. 1437 into law. Prior to the Governor signing this bill, animal advocates worried that when Prop 2 bans battery egg production in California in 2015, the law could be evaded simply by importing battery eggs from other states.

But now that won’t be possible: starting on January 1st, 2015, it will be illegal to sell battery eggs in California, regardless of where the eggs were produced.

This is great news for hens, and it also destroys perhaps the main argument that egg producers had used against passing Proposition 2. (Via Mariann.) Link.
