Bittman Abandons “Minimalist” for Food Politics

January 24, 2011

Mark Bittman’s ending his “Minimalist” column in order to start a weekly food politics column, and also a writing gig with the New York Times magazine.

A perfect move, and probably long overdue. There are a great many people with the ability to create simple recipes and cooking videos, but very few with Bittman’s talent when it comes to talking about the complex ethical and environmental issues surrounding our food choices. While he’s not vegan, he can always be counted on to address vegan-oriented issues in an informed and accurate way.

Plus, he’s probably the only guy out there who has a platform comparable to Pollan’s, and I’d much rather see Bittman getting the attention. (Via Bay Area Bites.) Link.
