Zuckerberg Will Only Eat What He Kills

I’ve repeatedly heard rumors that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is vegan, but they’re bunk. Here’s what’s really going on: he’s decided that the only meat he’ll eat this year will come from animals he’s personally killed. That makes him mostly vegetarian:

This year, my personal challenge is around being thankful for the food I have to eat. I think many people forget that a living being has to die for you to eat meat, so my goal revolves around not letting myself forget that and being thankful for what I have. This year I’ve basically become a vegetarian since the only meat I’m eating is from animals I’ve killed myself. So far, this has been a good experience. I’m eating a lot healthier foods and I’ve learned a lot about sustainable farming and raising of animals.

I wish everyone would go vegan. But for the people who don’t consider this a workable choice, it’s still a huge deal to take the sort of action that Zuckerberg is doing. Plenty of people who would view veganism as hopelessly extreme could easily contemplate reducing their meat consumption to a couple meals a week.

I’ve got to think that this year Zuckerberg will discover a number of terrific vegan foods that will continue crowding out the animal products long after his one-year eating experiment ends. (Thanks, Lori.) Link.
