CareerCast just ranked dairy farming as the second worst job in America, behind lumberjacks.
Makes sense to me. It’s a perfect storm of awfulness that entails:
- Terrible job security.
- Dirty, unpleasant work.
- Long hours.
- Guilt over animal treatment.
- Constant stress over profit margins.
America has a shrinking pool of people willing to raise dairy cows for a living, and the fact that there are plainly easier and more reliable ways to make a buck doesn’t bode well for the dairy industry’s future. Link.
