Boots for Vegans: How to Find the Perfect Pair

We like our cows alive and kicking, so really get a kick out of vegan boots. Vegan boots are great for kicking up a stink, and for kicking ass and taking names, because creating positive change means we have to stand our ground sometimes. The positive changes we stand for are compassion, health, and environment, so there’s never any need to kick someone when they’re down. Best of all, our statement can be made strongly, directly, unmistakably, and even fashionably, and no one has to kick the bucket.

The things that make boots great have nothing to do with what they’re made of. It’s their shape, not their materials, that make us feel strong, confident, sexy, and prepared to take on anything the world wants to dish at us. It’s all about the way they look, the way they make us look, and the way they make other people look at us. We’re not attracted to boots because they’re leather, we’re attracted to the human inside the boots – so like the rest of our wardrobes, our vegan boots are readily available in a wide variety of colors, cuts, and materials.

Vegan and Non-Vegan Boot Materials

The materials our vegan boots are made of can never include animal products or byproducts, so that means no leather or suede. And while we’re on the subject of glue, many shoe makers use man-made or plant-based uppers and soles, but glue them together with animal-based glues (angry scream appropriate here). This is why those cool Converse High Tops we all loved haven’t been vegan for several years – so we have to ask shoe makers about glues as well as other materials. The more we ask, the more positive change we create.

The great news is that change is already happening. It’s no harder to find cruelty-free boots than it is to find any others. The real challenge is in finding the ones that are right for you! And just like finding that perfect anything else, finding your wonderful new cruelty-free boots will involve trying some on. If you’re new to vegan boots, this may involve seeking out trusted familiar brand names, but new models that the old store down the street didn’t carry.

Zappos.com

A handful of cities have cruelty-free shoe stores that are fun to browse, but their selections are limited by floor space and most stock very few boots. You and me shop online then for wider selections, better prices, anticipation of delivery, and maybe the BIGGEST BONUS: that we can try on our new vegan boots with all our clothes in the privacy of our home – not just with the one outfit we happen to be wearing that one day in the store.

We can definitively assert that Zappos has the widest selection of vegan boots and shoes anywhere. They also have the lowest prices, the easiest return policy for those of us who like to try multiple sizes, and at time of going to press they even have free shipping! Another BONUS is that although shoes and boots are driven by fashion and have their seasons, Zappos keeps many styles of vegan shoes and boots in stock for all seasons. This is incredibly important, because vegans in Seattle have a different January than vegans in Miami. And New York. And Phoenix. And Chicago. Yes, WE ARE EVERYWHERE, and Zappos is ready.

Here is a quick look at Zappos current selections of vegan boots for women and vegan boots for men. And just because we were enjoying ourselves, here are a few we thought you might like too:
